Prosthesis Public installation Forged, formed, recycled and welded steel 3.60 x 1.80 x 4.00 m 2012
11th Havana Biennial Set of three monumental sculptures placed at the “San Alejandro” National Academy of Fine Arts
Prosthesis is a set of three monumental sculptures that were placed in the premises of the “San Alejandro “Academy of Fine Arts: eyeglasses, earphones and a pacifier, made of metal, basically with waste materials (some of them even keep inside the pieces the shape they had as everyday objects). Several readings are possible, but the one I certainly prefer would bring our senses closer to the problems of today’s art, to the proliferation of aesthetic signs, to art as “aesthetic prosthesis”.
On the other hand, the three pieces represent everyday life objects, magnified and un-made both by this magnifying effect and by the use of the assembling of ready-made or found objects. Obviously, since Duchamp, we are aware that the space in which the work is exhibited matters; space in itself has a meaning.
